Appeal: Puppy Stolen from Mitchelton

Police are appealing for urgent public assistance in order to reunite a newborn puppy with its mother after it was stolen during a break-in at Mitchelton on Sunday.

On March 3, unknown people entered a residence on Osbourne Road overnight and stole various household items as well as a male and female Maltese-Shitzu cross puppy (pictured below).

An investigation immediately commenced with police and the owners holding serious concerns for the welfare of the puppies which were only three weeks old.

One of the pups was recognised by a member of the public on Tuesday night with a person at a fish and chip shop in Virginia and reported it to police yesterday after the story was publicised.

Officers executed a search warrant at an address in Stafford where they located the male puppy (pictured left). The occupants were completely unaware the puppy had been stolen and were allegedly told by a man known to them it was 8 weeks old before he gave it to them.

The recovered puppy was reunited with its owners and immediately taken to the vet to be checked over.

Police still hold serious concerns for the remaining female puppy and its survival after being away from its mother for a number of days.

It is possible the pup has been given or sold to someone unaware of its origin or young age.

The Ferny Grove Property Crime Team is urging anyone with further information as to the whereabouts of the puppy to immediately contact police.
