New way to report minor traffic crashes

From January 1 this year, motorists who are involved in a minor crash can now report it via the Policelink smart phone app or online instead of waiting for police to attend.

However police will still be required to attend traffic crashes that involve any of the following circumstances:
  • Death or injury (injury requiring medical treatment by a qualified paramedic, nurse or doctor);
  • Suspected involvement of drugs or alcohol;
  • Driver has failed or is refusing to provide required details;
  • A hazardous environment or threat to public safety exists, including congestion;
  • Impairment/disability (a driver with an impairment or disability requires police assistance); or
  • Other situations where discretion would determine it was in the public interest to attend and/or investigate.
What it does mean is that if a traffic crash occurs but no-one is injured, then generally instead of calling police people can instead report it by downloading the Policelink smart phone app, completing a form online via the Policelink website or by calling Policelink on 131 444.

The Policelink Smart phone app can be downloaded from the App store by searching “Policelink”. After the information has been collected motorists will be issued a report number that can be used for insurance purposes.

Warning for motorists

North Brisbane detectives are investigating two robberies with violence, and one attempted robbery with violence that occurred earlier this week in Chermside and Toowong.
Investigations to-date suggest that about 9am on Tuesday October 28, a woman had just entered a car parked on Meemar Street Chermside, when a man who was in company with a woman, opened the passenger door and asked her for the time, sitting in the passenger’s seat.
The woman told the man to get out of the car and began to push him out.  At this time, the other woman opened the driver’s side and pulled her out of the car, before sitting in the driver’s seat and driving east down Meemar Street.
Later that afternoon, about 3.30pm, a man and woman approached an elderly woman who was driving a vehicle from a car park onto Jephson Street, Toowong.
The woman entered the passenger side of the vehicle and the man has opened the driver’s side and pulled the woman out of the driver’s seat, forcing her onto the ground outside the car.  He then sat in the driver’s seat and left the car park at speed onto Jephson Street, heading towards Moggill Road.
It is believed that the same two people attempted to gain entry to another vehicle parked on Vera Street, Toowong at around 3.10pm, the same day. A woman was looking in the back passenger’s seat, when she noticed a woman open the front passenger’s door, sit inside and instruct a man to enter the driver’s side.
She challenged the pair, pulling the woman out of the passenger seat.  The pair then fled the scene on-foot.
 None of the victims sustained any serious physical injuries.
The man is described as being around 25-30 years and Caucasian in appearance, with a thin build around 178cm tall. His face is described as being gaunt with pointed features, saggy eyes and short fair hair.

National Police Remembrance Day 2014

Today is National Police Remembrance Day, the day on which we honour and say ‘thank you’ to the dedicated men and women who have died whilst on duty.

The Queensland Police Service has 140 officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Police Commissioner Ian Stewart paid tribute to them today,
“Our thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues of those officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice, as we honour their memories on National Police Remembrance Day,” Commissioner Stewart said.
“Police Remembrance Day not only allows us to pay tribute to such officers but it presents an opportunity to recognise the bravery and dedication of past and present officers.”
Blue ribbons are available from any police station for a small donation and the proceeds will go towards charities, Queensland Police Legacy and Community Supporting Police.
